Project 2: Contextual Fit
Architectural Design II-ARC 257
In this project, we are tasked with designing an addition to the Smith House, built in 1965 by architect Richard Meier. The new design must respect the original architecture by analyzing and incorporating its existing systems and patterns.
We are also asked to develop a concept that responds to the homeowners' current needs, while introducing new elements or systems not found in the original house.
Narrative

The Smith Family's addition is based on the hexagon as the main design idea. The hexagon was a chosen because it shows strength, connection, and unity, which reflets the family room. The family room is the most important space because it brings everyone together!

Preliminary Designs
The following are three of my preliminary designs which were created by mapping out the necessary masses and circulation path. After observing which one flowed best with the original circulation and which one had the most potential, I decided to go with the third design.
